Or in the outpatient transplant clinic at Johns Hopkins Hospital, over a bag of packed red blood cells. She’s recovering from a stem cell transplant, and it’s a rough road. I can’t fix it. She needs this to feel as valid as a trip to the grocery store; like any other errand that a person might need to get done, to further their life, day to day. Then, she needs to get well, so that we can go shoe shopping.
